FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SoberRecovery.com Celebrates Second Birthday
(September 15, 2002) San Gabriel, CA—September 15th marked the 2-year anniversary for Soberrecovery.com, a 24-hour online community of support for those afflicted with or affected by disorders such as alcoholism and drug addiction, gambling and debt, mental health issues, health and weight issues, and various others.
Launched in the fall of 2000 with approximately 300 resources listed in a fully searchable web based library, SoberRecovery.com has grown to over 2700 resources and links to organizations focused upon assisting individuals and families who need help. The message boards continues to grow on a daily basis and services approximately 1900 members and contains over 31,000 posts. Jon Heller, founder of SoberRecovery.com, believes "It is always important to remember that in every city people are dying from the disease of addiction. In our neighborhoods, on our streets—from alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling and debt, food and weight issues and a hundred forms of self-deception the disease rages on."
Those seeking help may visit http://www.soberrecovery.com and access more than 2700 recovery related resources in over 60 unique categories including treatment centers, teen addiction, mental health resources, twelve step meetings and more directly from the site. The resources are updated weekly to enable those seeking help to always have the most up-to-date information on addiction and recovery, and to aid them as they seek much needed support and services. Heller is on a mission, "Our goal is simple: To provide as many resources to as many people as possible." For those seeking help, there is never a charge in accessing the readily available resources and that the site is completely supported by sponsors and donors. More than 1500 people use this resource each day.
In the Soberrecovery.com September newsletter, Heller reveals that September is National Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. One of many support services listed in the web based library, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, states and stresses the importance of such an occasion, "The month is set aside to highlight the strides made in substance abuse treatment and to educate the public that addiction is a chronic, but treatable, public health problem that affects us all."
As stated by Heller, "The tools for recovery from alcoholism and addiction exist, if not on SoberRecovery.com, then on one of the thousands of resources we provide."
